ABOUT THE EVENT
The Indigenous Peoples College Fair returns for its second year to continue the work for Indigenous and American Indian education—reimagining college access as a pathway rooted in community, belonging, and self-determination.
Unlike traditional college fairs that emphasize rankings and test scores, this event invites students and families to explore how institutions can support Indigenous students in thriving across their educational journeys. At its heart are dialogues led by Anawakalmekak alumni—current Indigenous college students from across California—who will share firsthand experiences about navigating higher education and building community on campus. These exchanges help bridge the gap between college representatives and high-school applicants, fostering cultural, academic, communal, and personal success.
Following the panels, attendees will engage directly with universities, colleges, and career organizations represented by institutional personnel, all dedicated to advancing equity, inclusion, and Indigenous representation in higher education. Each representative reflects a shared commitment to fostering culturally grounded, relational, and intergenerational pathways for Indigenous students and their families.
The fair also celebrates collaboration between charter schools, Indigenous educators, and higher education institutions to make college access more equitable and relevant for future generations.
The Indigenous Peoples College Fair brings together students, families, alumni, current college students, educators, and community partners with the following goals:
To prepare Indigenous students to enter higher education fully empowered and conscious of their commitments to family, community, and nation.
To support Native youth and families in selecting colleges and universities through an Indigenous lens—centering values such as relational accountability, interdependence, and healing-centered design.
To introduce an Indigenous Peoples community review guide on how higher education institutions align with Indigenous values and commitments to decolonization and racial equity.
LAND & BELONGING
Discover how colleges honor the lands they occupy and create opportunities for students to connect with Tribal Nations, sustainability programs, and place-based learning that strengthen identity and purpose.
LANGUAGE & KNOWLEDGE
Explore colleges that celebrate Indigenous languages, cultural studies, and research rooted in Indigenous Knowledge Systems—where learning and cultural pride go hand in hand.
COMMUNITY & CONNECTION

Dialogue with students, alumni, and community
Education is a sacred act of nation-building, cultural renewal, and collective empowerment. Institutions of higher education hold great influence in mediating knowledge and power. Our communities are organizing to ensure these institutions actively support Indigenous students by fostering spaces of creativity and empowerment towards the resurgence of Indigenous education. To that end, this event brings together Indigenous youth representatives from colleges and universities, higher institution representatives, and career organizations to empower Indigenous students and families in shaping their educational pathways that express our rights to self-determination, self-reliance, and sovereignty.
